The bass also has a D, requiring a shift. At measure 33, the melody is played pizzicato, unison by all instruments, creating an effective contrast. Edmund Siennicki was born and raised
in Cleveland, OH. At the age of 12, he met and talked with Paderewski;
which influenced his life greatly. At Kent State University, he earned
his bachelor's degree, wrote FIGHT ON FOR KSU which is played at football
games, and in 1994 was presented the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the
School of Music. At Teachers College, Columbia University, he earned his M.A.
Twice his compositions won prizes in the National School Orchestra composition
contests. Twice he was composer in residence at the MacDowell Colony. During
the last 20 years he has been receiving special awards from ASCAP. He has
about 200 publications. He studied composition with Herbert Elwell, electronic
music with Sergio Barroso, and consulted with Vincent Persichetti. His teaching
career was mainly in the Cleveland Junior High Schools, and also in Michigan and
at Kent State University. As a professional musician he played the bassoon and
piano. He is active conducting the Medina Symphony Orchestra and Tuba Christmas,
as assistant conductor of the 200 piece All Ohio State Fair Band, visiting schools,
composing and doing clinics.
