| Description: This traditional Christmas favorite features stylistic Baroque trademarks such as a running bass line, clear texture and three-part polyphonic voices (often reduced to two-part). Other Baroque characteristics featured are pedal tone and concerto grosso contrasts. The use of open strings, simple slurs and fingering make playing easy for groups from second to advanced levels. Keyboard accompaniment may be added if desired by playing the cello part. The viola is doubled in all but four measures by violin II or cello throughout . |
