| Description: A work for second or third year students, Cherry Hill utilizes rhythms which are characteristic of ragtime music, which was popular during the early years of the twentieth century. In the syncopated rhythms, the 'off beat' quartet note should be stressed a little more than the other notes. First violins have a high D which requires third position. The bass also has a D, requiring a shift. At measure 33, the melody is played pizzicato, unison by all instruments, creating an effective contrast. A variety of tempos will work, depending on the experience level of the group. |
