| Description: Gounod was not recognized much by his peers until the first performance of his opera Faust (Paris, 1859), which remains one of the most dramatic and popular in the repertoire. A light staccato bow style will capture the spirit of the opening theme. The main body of the piece is comprised of a Viennese waltz with technical problems in both first violin and violoncello. Work for a well balanced but full sound in the divisi passages of the closing march. |
