| Description: Written in 1889, Mahler looked upon his First Symphony as 'an adventure of the soul.' Mahler used the orchestral resources for alternating moods of happiness, sadness, tranquility and excitement. The second movement is scherzo-like, energetic and vigorous. It is designated by Mahler as an Austrian Peasant Dance. An excellent selection for contests and concerts. |
