| Description: Ancient Kingdom is a musical journey that delves deep into the echoes of a forgotten civilization. Scored for string orchestra and optional percussion, this composition invites the listener to explore the grandeur and mystery of an ancient realm, its rise and eventual fall, and the stories woven into its very foundations. The piece begins with a slow, solemn introduction written in a minor mode, representing the quiet majesty of the kingdom before an eventual conflict ensues. A soft yet intricate melody emerges, performed by two solo voices; a violin and cello which hint at a civilization’s cultural richness and echo the whispers of long-forgotten rulers. As the piece progresses, the opening theme builds in intensity and leads the listener to an ensuing battle fraught with strong articulate orchestration and tension that wields the listener throughout the piece. As the piece continues, the music grows more and more frantic throughout, with each section of the orchestra showcasing its power and strength. Soon after, the piece quickly moves to the climax of the composition which is highlighted by long lyrical lines being passed throughout the ensemble that is reminiscent of a Hollywood film soundtrack. In the final section, we’re presented with a return to the opening theme, again highlighted by the original two solo voices, but now transitioning from A minor to the parallel major, offering the listener a sense of nostalgia while contemplating the timeless mystery of this ancient kingdom. |
