| Description: Roman Carnival Overture, composed in 1843 was fashioned out of material from his earlier opera, Benvenuto Cellini (1838). The opening burst heralds the Mardi Gras saltarello. The tender cello solo(originally for Eng.Horn) which follows is derived from the love duet in the opera. This arrangement changes the length, key (from A to Bb) and instrumentation, but it maintains the essence and character of the original extremely well. |
