| Description: Kentucky Mountain Hoedown is composed for young players in the style of a traditional lively folk dance. The main theme is based on the eastern Kentucky folk tune “Old Joe Clark”, a song about 19th century Kentucky mountaineer, Joseph Clark. The piece should be played with energy and in a lively dance style throughout. An optional woodblock part is included to evoke the sound of clog dancing. Kentucky Mountain Hoedown is lovingly dedicated to Stacy Anne Champion, a longtime friend, wonderful orchestra teacher, and overall beautiful person whom I greatly admire. |
